The meaning of Iris is rainbow and that is exactly why I named the "revamped" Queen throw to Iris. I love the name Iris as it describes the colorful throw in one word.
My inspiration for the colors of the Iris throw comes from the colorful African art. Mostly the beads. The Zulu, Xhosa and Ndebele (and other Africans) use beading for different uses. I love the creativity of them when it comes to the use of colors. It inspired me because colors make me feel happy.
"Beads were used to make ornaments and to decorate clothing and other objects of value, such as snuff-boxes. The bead work was done by women using needle and thread, and particular colors and styles were favored by certain groups or in certain areas. Simple ornaments were worn by children as protective charms, but much more elaborate pieces were made by women to give to men they liked, and a young man's popularity could be gauged by the amount of bead work he wore on festive occasions" (Unknown source)
The Iris throw will be presented as a CAL (Crochet Along) starting 3 July 2019. The pattern will be released weekly on the Facebook group. Make sure you are a member not to miss the CAL.

More about the throw.... Why do I present it as a CAL again? The original Queen throw was designed in 2016 and was very popular. I received numerous requests to present it as a CAL again and that is when I decided I have to listen to you. This time I used another South African yarn, Nurturing Fibres Eco Fusion, which is a nice blend of 50% cotton and 50% bamboo using a 3.5mm crochet hook. I made a few refreshing changes to it and is also smaller. The finished size of the round Iris throw is 140cm in diameter. On the above photo it is shown on a Queen size bed.
You can order your kit from the online shop. I offer only one colorway kit but you are welcome to choose your own colors by sending me a special request via email to sayarniekits@gmail.com or Whatsapp to +2784 098 4820. If you are outside the borders of South Africa, you can drop me an email to sayarniekits@gmail.com for a quote to your country.
I see forward to offer the Iris CAL to you and hope to see you on the Facebook group.
Until next time
